Nine CHS Football Players Selected to All League Teams

CHS Wrestler Signs Letter of Intent to CCC


CHS student athlete Tate Carney signed a letter of Intent to wrestle at Colby Community College next season.  Tate is a 3 time State Wrestling tournament qualifier placing 2nd in 2014, 3rd in 2015, and 2nd in 2016.  Congratulations to Tate Carney and his family!

Second Grade Performs Music Program: When I Grow Up

CMS Lady Eagles Compete at Scott City


The 7th and 8th grade Lady Eagle basketball teams played at Scott City on Saturday, November 19th.  Here are the results:

8th grade:

Colby A beat Scott 25-19, beat Hugoton 32-15.

Colby B beat Scott 27-15, DNP Hugoton.

Congrats to the CMS 8th grade girls basketball team on being GWAC champs!

7th grade:

A team lost to Scott City 34-26 and beat

Hugoton 47-6.

B team lost to Scott City 24-14 and beat

Hugoton 20-10.

CMS Lady Eagles vs. Hays MS Falcons


The CMS Lady Eagle 7th and 8th grade basketball teams took on the Hays Middle School Falcons on Monday, Nov. 14th.  Here are the results:


8th A team:  Colby defeated Hays 28-21

8th B team:  Colby defeated Hays 26-21


7th A team:  Hays defeated Colby 33-31

7th B team:  Hays defeated Colby 28-25

CMS Student Wins Grand Prize in State Art Contest

Congratulations to CMS 8th grade student Cami Andrews! Cami's Artwork was chosen as the Grand Prize winner in the 2016-17 Kansas: Keep It Clean Calendar Art contest. This yearly contest is hosted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and features student artwork for each month of the year.

The goal of the calendar is to increase awareness of environmental issues such as natural resource conservation, waste management, recycling and general "greening" activities.

The Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment will be hosting Cami, her family, and CMS Art teacher Lamoreaux Fulwider at a reception at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center in Topeka, KS on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 10 a.m.  Great Job, Cami!

The CMS girls' basketball teams competed in Garden City on Sat. November 12th.  Here are the results!

8th grade:

Three Colby Eagles Make All-League in Volleyball

CHS student athletes Erin Krannawitter, Kora Schindler, and Hallie Vaughn were voted to the All-GWAC League volleyball team for 2016.  Krannawitter, a junior, was selected as 2nd team All-League as a Libero.  Krannawitter was selected as All-League Honorable Mention in 2015 as a sophomore.  Schindler, also a junior, was selected as 2nd team All-League as a hitter.  Vaughn, a freshman, was selected as Honorable Mention as a hitter.  All League selections are voted by the GWAC League coaches.  Congratulations ladies!

CHS Presented Seussical the Musical November 10th/11th

CHS students presented "Suessical" the Musical on November 10 and 11th.  The students did a great job on both nights and it was received very well.  Thanks to Mr. Nickols and everybody who helped make the production a success.seussicalPic

CHS Tech Classes Receive Grant

The Colby High School Tech class received a $225 Grant from Midwest Energy. The funds will be used to continue projects in the Foundations of Technology Class (Tech 1) for the school year. We would like to thank Midwest Energy for sponsoring that grant and helping our students reach their full potential.




State Cross Results from Wamego

CHS runner Mark Faber finished in 32nd place at the State Cross Country meet in Wamego on Saturday, Oct 29th.  Mark ran the hilly Wamego course in 18 minutes .09 seconds.  Great Effort, Mark!


CHS Cross Country Runner Mark Faber Qualifies for the State Meet

CHS Senior Mark Faber son of Rhonda and Josh Faber, finished in 7th place at the Hays Sand Plum Regional on Saturday, Oct. 22nd.   Mark ran a personal best of 16mins 29 seconds and 65 hundredths to qualify for the State Cross Country meet in Wamego, KS on Saturday, Oct. 29th.



The Kansas Assessment Program has released a Parent Guide to understanding the results of the Kansas Assessments that were conducted in the Spring of 2016.  USD 315 staff will be referring to this guide when visiting about the results of the assessments.  Keep in mind that not all grade levels took the assessments last Spring so this information may not be applicable to your student.  Feel free to visit with your child’s teacher to know more about understanding the assessments. KS Assessment 2016 Parent Guide


Colby High School remains 4A(DII) for the 2016-17 School Year

The results are in and Colby High School will remain in the 4A classification for the 2016-17 school year.  Regional assignments for Fall Sports will be determined in the near future and listed on the KSHSAA site.  We will also post this information as soon as it’s received.  For all other sports, regional assignments will be determined at a later date.  For more information, go to and click on the classifications section.  For regional assignments, click on the specific sport you are interested in.

Tuesday Night School at CHS Colby High School offers Tuesday Night School for High School students on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:30 p.m. in the library of the high school.  Tuesday Night School offers the following services:
        • Academic support for English, Science, Math and Social Studies         • Access to computers and printers         • Library and media resources         • A quiet place to work on course assignments        • A certified teacher is on site         • Career Counseling and Scheduling Services--open to parents and students         • Students needing specific assistance should make prior arrangements with Mrs. Rundel
