Oct 18, 8:30-9:30 the Wichita Children’s Theatre will perform Wizard of Oz in the Grade School Gym.

Sixth Grade Students To Attend Fly In Kansas

The 6th grade students will be attending the Kansas Fly-In Airshow at the Colby Airport on Friday, September 30th. They will be able to view a variety of aircraft and see some aerial displays.

Parents are welcome to come to the airport between 11:30 and 1:00 to join us.


The Kansas Assessment Program has released a Parent Guide to understanding the results of the Kansas Assessments that were conducted in the Spring of 2016.  USD 315 staff will be referring to this guide when visiting about the results of the assessments.  Keep in mind that not all grade levels took the assessments last Spring so this information may not be applicable to your student.  Feel free to visit with your child’s teacher to know more about understanding the assessments. KS Assessment 2016 Parent Guide

Colby High School remains 4A(DII) for the 2016-17 School Year

The results are in and Colby High School will remain in the 4A classification for the 2016-17 school year.  Regional assignments for Fall Sports will be determined in the near future and listed on the KSHSAA site.  We will also post this information as soon as it’s received.  For all other sports, regional assignments will be determined at a later date.  For more information, go to www.KSHSAA.org and click on the classifications section.  For regional assignments, click on the specific sport you are interested in.

Colby High School Ag Department Receives Grant

The Colby High School Agriculture Dept. received a grant from the Pete Henry Foundation at the USD 315 Board of Education meeting on Monday, September 19th.  The CHS Ag Dept. received $6000.00 to go towards the purchase of the Precision Farming-Data Analysis program to be used by students in classes, and projects related to the agriculture curriculum.  The purchase of this equipment and the program moves our students towards becoming familiar with 21st century Agriculture industry standards.  The program and the equipment will allow CHS students to take soil samples, test and analyze data in real-time, and make more informed decisions relating to fertilizer and chemical application, and tillage and planting practices.  

Mrs. Sara Sloan, CHS Agriculture teacher and Future Farmers of America sponsor, applied for and received the grant after completing the process which included being interviewed by the Pete Henry Foundation Board members.

Parent/Teacher conferences will be on Tuesday, Sept. 27th from 8:00a.m. to 7:45p.m. There will be NO SCHOOL that day for students.
National Honor Society Induction
 The NHS Induction ceremony will take place TUESDAY, September 20th at 7:00 pm in the CHS Auditorium.  Please join NHS as they induct their new members!

The CGS PE Dept. will be hosting the interactive program Body Venture on Oct. 5th 2016. K-5 students from Heartland Christian School, Sacred Heart, and Colby Grade School will participate in this program that combines activities and displays that increase awareness of the Human Body and information on healthy living.
Tuesday Night School at CHS Colby High School offers Tuesday Night School for High School students on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:30 p.m. in the library of the high school.  Tuesday Night School offers the following services:
        • Academic support for English, Science, Math and Social Studies         • Access to computers and printers         • Library and media resources         • A quiet place to work on course assignments        • A certified teacher is on site         • Career Counseling and Scheduling Services--open to parents and students         • Students needing specific assistance should make prior arrangements with Mrs. Rundel 


PSAT/NMSQT--The PSAT/NMSQT (Pre-SAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) will be available to Sophomores and Juniors  on October 19, 2016.  During the Junior year, this test will be used to determine National Merit Scholarship qualification status.  This test will not be used to determine National Merit Scholarship qualification during the Sophomore year, however taking the test during the sophomore year is good practice and exposure for the test during their Junior year.

The cost of this test is $15.00 and a check should be made payable to Colby High School.

Students interested in taking this test need to sign up in the Career Center and give their checks to Mrs. Sullivan or Mrs. Goetz.

ACT -- The next ACT test date is October 22, 2016. The registration deadline is September 16, 2016. The late registration period is from September 17-30, 2016. Register for the ACT at www.actstudent.org. The Colby High School Code is 170-625.

Senior Credit Checks--Seniors please remember to make an appointment with Mrs. Sullivan to review your credits for graduation. It is very important that you check to make sure you have met all requirements for graduation.  

College Application Deadlines--Seniors, please be advised that many colleges in Kansas have a Nov. 1, 2016 application deadline.
